The City of Columbus' Opportunity Rising Career and Resource Fair was a great success this past Saturday.

The City of Columbus Department of Neighborhoods was proud to be there to assist through providing resource information, swag items, free lemonade and water, music and outdoor shelter from the rain.

It was nice to see so many faces from the community!

Last Friday marked the 40th annual Columbus Yom HaShoah Observance and Holocaust Remembrance. We joined @jewishcolumbus at Columbus City Hall where we heard from the daughter of a Holocaust survivor and concluded with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Alfred Tibor "Freedom" sculpture in Battelle Riverfront Park. Thank you to all who attended.

The 24th Annual Statewide MLK Oratorical Contest on April 11, 2025 featured 26 Ohio youth who delivered original speeches inspired by the lessons and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The students, winners of regional contests for grades one through 12, spoke before judges and others at the King Arts Complex in Columbus.

“These remarkable young people used their voices today to honor the legacy of Dr. King and amplify his principles,” said Governor Mike DeWine. “We are proud of all the students who participated in today’s contest and who are carrying Dr. King’s message into the future.”

The contest is sponsored by the Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Commission and contestants were judged on performance, originality and composition.

The following speakers placed in the top of their respective divisions:

Senior Division (grades nine through 12)
First place –
Kavion Hill, Columbus Alternative High School
Runners-up –
Rodav Kalengayi, Westerville South High School
Taylynn Hurt, Reynoldsburg Senior High School

Junior Division (grades six through eight)
First place –
Jasmine Davis, Columbus School for Girls
Runner-up –
Aishwarya Ramanathan, Olentangy Orange Middle School

Intermediate Division (grades three through five)
First place –
Ali Russell, Indianola Elementary School
Runner-up –
Tanner Rainer, Berwick Alternative K-8 School

Primary Division (grades one and two)
First place –
Jahlil Philp, Linden STEM Academy

BIG NEWS! MBK Columbus has been awarded a $25,000 capacity-building grant from My Brother’s Keeper Alliance — the national MBK organization.

This investment will directly support our 2025 priority focus: increasing high school graduation rates among boys and young men of color (BYMOC) in Columbus.

With this funding, MBK Columbus will:

⭐️Expand targeted supports for students
